1979 Topps Flashback:  Secretary of Defense Garry Maddox spent his entire 15-year career with the Giants and Phillies, winning eight Gold Gloves while patrolling the outfields of Candlestick Park and Veterans Stadium.  Maddox was drafted by the Giants in 1968 and spent the next two years serving in the Army with a tour in Vietnam.  He made his Major League debut on April 25, 1972, against the Phillies, going 0 for 3 with two strikeouts against the newly acquired Steve Carlton.  Maddox and Carlton would become teammates in May 1975 when the Giants traded Maddox to the Phillies for Willie Montanez.  In 1980, Maddox delivered the game-winning RBI-double in the 10th inning of Game 5 of the N.L.C.S. to send the Phils to their first World Series in 30 years.  He retired following the 1986 season and he was enshrined on the Phillies Wall of Fame in 2001.
