Phillies 6, Braves 3
Game 138 - Tuesday Night, September 6th in Philadelphia
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies won again behind the pitching of Vance Worley and Raul Ibanez' bat.
What It Means: The win improved the Phillies' record to 90-48 and they increased their lead in the East to 9 1/2 games. If you had told me in spring training that the Phils would have 90 wins on September 6th and almost a ten-game lead in the division, I wouldn't have believed you.
What Went Right: Following a two-hour rain delay, Worley (11-1) continued his winning ways with six strong innings. He allowed just two runs on seven hits while striking out six. Brad Lidge pitched a scoreless eighth and Ryan Madson shut down the Braves in the ninth for his 28th save.
Ibanez provided most of the offense, going three for four with three RBIs.
Featured Card: Stickers! For the first time in a while, Topps has issued a set of stickers to be affixed to assigned spaces in an actual sticker book. I won the Phillies team set on the cheap on eBay, but I may just need to head to Target to buy a Topps Sticker book and ten or so sticker packs, just for old time's sake.
Transactions: The Phillies have added three players to their expanded roster in the past few days. Infielder Pete Orr was recalled this afternoon. Joe Blanton was activated from the disabled list and Kyle Kendrick was activated from the paternity leave list.
