Phillies 2, Marlins 1 (Game 2 - 10 Innings)
Game 148 - Thursday Night, September 15th in Philadelphia
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies won in the 10th on Ryan Howard's walk-off double after Cliff Lee came within one pitch of a complete game shutout.
What It Means: The Phillies are 97-51, and their magic number to clinch the division is down to two. Life is grand.
What Went Right: Lee pitched brilliantly and he needed just one more strike to end the game and record a complete game shutout victory. But Jose Lopez homered to left, stunning the crowd (and Lee) and tying up the game. Howard came through in the tenth, doubling home Michael Martinez with the winning run.
John Mayberry, Jr.'s solo home run in the sixth (his 14th) accounted for the Phillies first run. Chase Utley returned to the line-up after missing a week with concussion-like symptoms.
Featured Card: Another blogger-created custom set has popped up recently, and it's one I'll be paying particular attention to, since the subject matter of the set is past and present Phillies players. 14,000 Phillies recently announced the creation of 14,000 Phillies Originals and the first 10-card series is available for trade. The set's design borrows from the 1916 M101-4 Sporting News set, and five players are featured in the first series who have never before been featured as Phillies on baseball cards. Of course, Cliff Lee, who is card #2 in the first series, has been featured on quite a few Phillies baseball cards, but I'll gladly add this awesome card to my collection.
