Phillies 7, Mets 2
Game 92 - Friday Night, July 15th in Flushing
One Sentence Summary: John Mayberry, Jr.'s career-high five RBIs paced the Phils to their first second half victory as they defeated the Mets, 7-2.
What It Means: It's good to be back. With Atlanta on their way to victory over the Nationals tonight, the Phils will maintain a 3 1/2 game lead in the East. The Phillies are now 58-34.
What Went Right: The offense put up a three-spot in the second inning and never looked back. The big hits were Mayberry's two-run single in the second and his bases clearing double in the eighth. He now has nine RBIs in his last two games. Raul Ibanez, who has been red hot again, hit his 13th home run in the sixth.
Vance Worley (5-1) pitched into the sixth inning, allowing a run on three hits while walking and striking out four. Ryan Madson returned from the disabled list to pitch a perfect seventh with two strikeouts.
Featured Card: Mayberry hasn't been featured on any mainstream baseball cards yet in 2011. His last card appeared in the Topps issued Phillies team set, which uses the exact same picture from his 2009 Topps Update card. There's still hope he'll get a card in the 2011 Topps Update set, and hopefully they'll go with a different picture.
Transactions: Worley was recalled from Triple-A Lehigh Valley for the start and reliever Scott Mathieson was sent down. Placido Polanco was placed on the disabled list with back issues and the Phillies activated Madson to take his place on the roster.
