I'm returning from a brief out-of-town business trip. Game summaries for the final two Braves games will be up shortly, unfortunately.
Records: Padres 32-21, 1st Place in NL West (1½ game ahead of the Dodgers); Phillies 28-24, 2nd Place in the NL East (3 games behind the Braves)
Former Padres with the Phillies: Current Phillies Wilson Valdez (2005) and Shane Victorino (2003) spent a brief amount of time with the Padres early in their careers. Radio broadcaster Larry Andersen spent two seasons in San Diego (1991-1992) before returning to the Phillies in 1993 for their NL Championship run. Before and after managing the Brewers, Davey Lopes was the Padres' first base coach (1995-1999; 2003-2005). And third base coach Sam Perlozzo played in 2 games for the 1979 Padres, going 0 for 2 with a walk.
1976 SSPC #622 Dick Sisler
Former Phillies great, and one of my Dad's favorites, Dick Sisler was a first base coach with the San Diego Padres in 1975 and 1976, under manager John McNamara. This is his lone Padres card, from the 1976 SSPC set.
I didn't find much on the internet regarding Sisler's tenure as a Padres' coach, but I did find a great article, written by Richie Ashburn and appearing in the September 1975 edition of Baseball Digest, remembering Sisler's clutch 3-run home run on the final day of the 1950 season to send the Phillies to the World Series.
Padres Probables: Mat Latos, Jon Garland, Kevin Correia
Phillies Probables: Roy Halladay, Jamie Moyer, Joe Blanton
