1995 Topps Traded #140T Charlie Hayes
The First Ex-Phillie Rockies: On November 17, 1992, the Rockies and Florida Marlins participated in an expansion draft to populate their new teams for Opening Day 1993. With their 26th and final pick in the 1st round, the Rockies selected pitcher Andy Ashby from the Phillies' list of unprotected players. Pitcher Keith Shepherd was taken with their 50th pick in the 2nd round and outfielder Braulio Castillo was selected with their 70th pick overall in the 3rd and final round.
However, the very first Ex-Phillie to don the purple and silver in an actual game was third baseman Charlie Hayes. Hayes had been selected with the Rockies' 3rd pick in the expansion draft from the New York Yankees, eventually becoming the team's opening day third baseman. He played in Colorado in 1993 and 1994 before coming back to the Phillies via free agency for the 1995 season.
Rockies Probables: Greg Smith, Aaron Cook, Esmil Rogers
