Cliff Lee made his Phillies' debut tonight, and he needed just 9 pitches to retire the Giants in the bottom of the 1st inning. He walked Ryan Garko in the 2nd inning but he'd hold the Giants' batters hitless in the 2nd, the 3rd, the 4th, the 5th . . . and yes, I'll admit it, I started to think something special was going to happen. Juan Uribe ruined those thoughts with a one-out double in the top of the 6th inning.
Jayson Werth's 2nd inning solo home run was the only scoring by either team through the first 6 innings. Raul IbaƱez drew a bases loaded walk in the top of the 7th and Werth followed with a 2-run single to give the Phils a 4-0 lead. Lee doubled and eventually scored in the 8th inning for the Phils' 5th run of the night. (At this point, he had outhit the Giants and was a triple and home run short of the cycle).
Aaron Rowand ruined the shutout in the bottom of the 8th, coming around to score the Giants' first and only run of the night. Lee would finish what he started, earning the complete game victory while throwing 109 pitches. Bravo, Ruben Amaro, Jr. Bravo.

What a great debut performance. I haven't seen a pitcher with 4 effective pitches in a while.
