2009 Topps #207 Joe Blanton

The Phillies won a crisp ballgame tonight, 3-2, against the visiting Pittsburgh Pirates thanks to another solid pitching performance from Joe Blanton. Pitching 7 1/3 innings, Joe allowed a run on four hits while striking out six. He left in the eighth inning to a standing ovation.

All-Star Shane Victorino went 3 for 4 on the night. Shane scored the first run of the game on Chase Utley's hit, Pirates' center fielder Andrew McCutchen's fielding error, and third base coach Sam Perlozzo's aggressive wave home. A few batters later, fellow All-Star Jayson Werth drove home Chase and Ryan Howard with a 2-run double. Brad Lidge saved his 18th save, although a Brandon Moss solo home run in the ninth inning raised Brad's ERA to 7.03.

(Doug hopes Carol and Bill enjoyed the fireworks!)
