Any conversation about the most beloved Phillies' figures in recent history has to include coach John Vukovich. Vuk played in parts of 7 seasons with the Phillies from the early '70s to the early '80s. He caught the last out of Rick Wise's 1971 no-hitter and was a member of the 1980 World Championship team. After 6 seasons with the Cubs' organization (1982-1987), Vuk returned to the Phillies for good in 1988. In 1993, Vuk served as manager Jim Fregosi's bench coach.
After the 2004 season, Vuk left the coaching ranks and joined the Phillies' front office as a special assistant to GM Ed Wade. Vuk lost his battle with brain cancer in March 2007, and the Phils dedicated the season to his memory. He was inducted posthumously into the Phillies Wall of Fame in August 2007.
(The Phillies website has a great tribute to Vuk here).
