Roger McDowell came to the Phillies as part of the June 1989 trade that saw Juan Samuel shipped to the Mets. Lenny Dykstra, a key component of the 1993 N.L. Championship team, was the centerpiece of the deal for the Phillies. Roger had 44 saves for the Phillies from 1989 to 1991, and he was traded to the Dodgers in July 1991 for Mike Hartley and Braulio Castillo.
Roger joined the Braves' staff as their pitching coach in 2006 after the departure of long-time pitching coach Leo Mazzone.
