1956 Topps #127 Willie Jones

How exactly does one wind up with the nickname "Puddin' Head"? I've been looking around for some sort of reasonable explanation, and the only thing I've found is a little blurb in the Phillies Encyclopedia that states the moniker was a "name he got as a boy". What mysterious occurrence happened in young Willie's life that someone, somewhere, thought "Puddin' Head" was a fitting nickname? Maybe we'll never know.

Wearing #6, Puddin' Head was the 1950 Whiz Kids' starting third baseman, and he played for the Phils from 1947 to 1959. We purchased this card at a Millville Baseball Card Show (at the YMCA?) in May 1989 for $7.50.

There is an article written by Bill Conlin that addresses the nickname...evidently Willie "imbibed" frequently...I can't remember but Richie Ashburn was involved.
