Marlins 3, Phillies 1
Game 137 - Monday Afternoon, September 3rd in Miami
Record - 72-65, 2nd place, 4 games behind the Braves
One Sentence Summary: Yet another game where this One Sentence Summary bit can start with "As the offense continued to struggle," and end with "the Phillies lost again."
What It Means: At least the Red Sox beat the Braves so the Phillies didn't lose any more ground in the division due to this loss. Still, the Phillies can't back into a playoff spot by hoping the Braves lose games.
What Happened: The offense was shut down by Jose Urena who allowed a solo home run to Asdrubal Cabrera and not much more. Vince Velasquez went five innings and gave up three runs in the 2nd on singles from Lewis Brinson and Rafael Ortega.
Featured Card: Justin Bour returned to Miami but was not used in this game as manager Gabe Kapler opted to use Pedro Florimon as his first bat off the bench in the 6th. Florimon struck out looking. #BeBold
Transaction: Jerad Eickhoff was activated from the 60-day disabled list as he hopes to salvage his 2018 season with at least a few long relief appearances down the stretch run. To make room on the 40-man roster for Eickhoff, Ben Lively was designated for assignment. Lively began the season in the starting rotation, making 5 starts and running up an ERA of 6.85 and an 0-2 record.
