The World Series is underway, the Nationals seem to be unstoppable and the Phillies may be naming their new manager as soon as Thursday.  Before we get too far into the Phillies' offseason, here's a look at all the major league players who joined and left the organization during the past year.

The "New Arrivals - 2018-2019 Offseason" gave us cause for optimism but then things fell apart once we got to the "Arrived During the 2019 Season" section.

Record - 8-4-2

One Sentence Summary:  The Phillies split their squad and went 1-1 against the Tigers and Yankees.

What It Means:  We're a day closer to Bryce Harper making his spring debut on Saturday.

What Happened:  In Clearwater, Drew Anderson had another great outing, pitching three shutout innings and striking out six.  Victor Arano allowed four Yankees runs in 2/3 of an inning and the offense managed only four hits.

In Lakeland, JoJo Romero, Adonis Medina and Cole Irvin all pitched well.

Featured Card:  Anderson intrigues me and it will be interesting to see where he eventually ends up this season.  My assumption is that he starts the season with the IronPigs, but he could be one of the first to get the call if any of the intended five starting pitchers goes down.

Anderson is still looking for his first Phillies baseball card, having appeared in just 7 games with the club in 2017 and 2018.

Camp Head Count:  62.  My prediction was wrong and no roster moves were made following these split squad games.

On Friday afternoon, in the biggest 40-man roster overhaul in recent memory, the Phillies dropped three players and added 11 in preparation for the upcoming Rule 5 draft.  Over the past seven offseasons, the most prospects added to the 40-man roster in November prior to this was five.  Here's a look at the 11 players added, their 2016 clubs, and a few brief notes.

• Drew Anderson (rhp) - Lakewood/Clearwater - Struck out 78 in 70 innings and pitched the first four innings of a combined Threshers no-hitter in July.

Massive, Meandering Post-Vacation Catch-Up, Part 8 of 11

One Sentence Summary:  Pirates pitcher Nick Kingham shut down the Phillies offense through 6 innings and contributed a 2-run double in this 4-1 loss.

What It Means:  The Braves also lost, so the Phillies remain in a tie for first place.

What Happened:  Drew Anderson received a spot start, making his 2018 season debut with the Phillies.  He lasted five innings, allowing all four Pirates runs on eight hits.  The only Phillies run came from Nick Williams' solo home run (11) in the 4th.

Andrew Knapp became the first catcher in franchise history to bat lead-off.  The experiment didn't go well as Knapp went 0 for 4 with a strikeout.

Featured Card:  Drew Anderson is still in search of his first Phillies baseball card.  This is the most recent card of his in my collection, from the Top 30 Prospects set issued by the Reading Fightin Phils.

Transaction:  Anderson was recalled from the IronPigs prior to this game, taking the roster spot of Yacksel Rios who was sent down.

Field Report:  We listened to the Pirates broadcast of this game on XM as we drove across and up Utah, with a pitstop at Four Corners Monument.  If we ever form a family band and need a photo for our first album, I think this is it.

Record - 39-65, 5th place, 23 1/2 games behind the Nationals

One Sentence Summary:  Aaron Nola turned in another great start, but Albert Pujols and his 5-RBI night helped defeat the Phillies, 7-1.

What It Means:  The five-game win streak is over, the Phillies went 2 for 16 with runners in scoring position, and I needed extra coffee this morning since I actually stayed up to watch most of this game.

What Happened:  Nola allowed just two runs on eight hits over six innings.  Mark Leiter, Jr. surrendered a three-run home run to Pujols in the seventh.

Featured Card:  Drew Anderson made his Major League debut in this game (see below) and this is his most recent baseball card from the Reading team set.

Transaction:  In a somewhat surprising move, pitcher Anderson was recalled from Double-A Reading (and flown to Los Angeles) to take the departed Joaquin Benoit's roster spot.  The team's 40-man roster currently has 38 players on it, including Anderson, and the thought here is that they wanted to keep those two spots open.  Thus, Anderson got the surprise call-up.

Phillies Debuts:  Anderson is the 21st overall new Philllie player this season, and the 11th making his big league debut.

21.  Drew Anderson (rhp) - Relieved Leiter in the eighth, allowing two singles, two runs (one earned) and striking out Mike Trout for his first career K.
