Game 108 - Wednesday Night, August 4th in Washington
Record - 55-53, 2nd Place, 1 1/2 games behind the Mets
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies overcame an early deficit to run away with this game, 9-5 over the Nationals.
What It Means: After a disastrous start to the road trip in Pittsburgh, the Phillies were suddenly firing on all cylinders and turning things around.
What Happened: Chase Anderson faltered early, but it was Matt Moore's turn to pitch effectively, as Moore bailed out a beleaguered bullpen with four solid innings of relief. He picked up the win but Ian Kennedy needed to be called upon in the ninth inning to record the final out. The Phillies had key RBI doubles from Travis Jankowski, Jean Segura and Rhys Hoskins in the third. Hoskins and Didi Gregorius homered in the fifth and sixth innings to pad the Phillies' lead. Bryce Harper sealed the win with an RBI double of his own in the eighth, collecting his third hit of the game.
Featured Card: Harper, Hoskins and J.T. Realmuto are all heating up and Hoskins had a pair of hits and three RBIs in this game. Unfortunately, Hoskins would injure his groin in Thursday's game, eventually leading to a stint on the injured list.
Transaction: Damon Jones (lhp) was recalled from Lehigh Valley with Rafael Marchan (c) getting sent back down.
