Game 107 - Tuesday Night, August 3rd in Washington
Record - 54-53, 2nd Place, 1 1/2 game behind the Mets
One Sentence Summary: Zack Wheeler improved his Cy Young Award chances and Bryce Harper silenced his former team's fans with a solo home run in the late innings as the Phillies took this game, 5-4.
What It Means: The win pulled the Phillies to within a game and a half of the first place Mets.
What Happened: Wheeler pitched into the eighth inning, allowing four runs on eight hits on his way to his ninth win of the season. Hector Neris finished off the eighth and Jose Alvarado pitched an uneventful ninth for his fourth save. All the Phillies runs came on home runs with Jean Segura, J.T. Realmuto, Ronald Torreyes and Harper all contributing. Torreyes' was a two-run shot.
Featured Card: Unfortunately for Torreyes, I have way more baseball cards for Harper than him, so Harper gets the nod here. Harper gets extra credit for blowing kisses to the Nationals fans, who had been booing him relentlessly all night, after crossing home plate.
Transaction: Connor Brogdon (rhp) was placed on the 10-day injured list with a right elbow injury and Mauricio Llovera (rhp) was recalled from the IronPigs.
