Spring Training Game 4 - Wednesday Afternoon, March 3rd in Lakeland
Record - 1-2-1
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies notched their first win of the spring behind strong pitching from Zach Eflin and a four-run third inning.
What It Means: Eflin looked solid in his first game action, working two quick innings and striking out three while allowing only one hit. The Phillies are hoping Aaron Nola, Zack Wheeler and Eflin form a strong trio at the top of the rotation.
What Happened: Ivan Nova redeemed himself with two scoreless innings of relief, as he had struggled in the spring opener on Sunday. Didi Gregorius and Brad Miller drove in the first two runs in the third with Andrew Knapp then coming through with a two-run double. Travis Jankowski had two hits for the Phillies.
Featured Card: Eflin could have gotten the card here, but I'll take the rare opportunity to feature a card of the Phillies' back-up catcher. The rarity of the appearance isn't a knock on Knapp, but as the back-up to J.T. Realmuto he's not going to receive many chances to shine throughout the season. I read somewhere during the offseason that Knapp is the current Phillie most likely to go on to a managerial career once his playing days are over. His cardboard output last year was limited to cards in the flagship set, the Topps retail team set and this Topps Total card.
