Game 37 - 2018 Topps Phillies #PP-14 Vince Velasquez

Phillies 6, Giants 3
Game 37 - Thursday Afternoon, May 10th in Philadelphia
Record - 22-15, 2nd place, 1/2 game behind the Braves

One Sentence Summary:  The Phillies completed the four-game sweep of the Giants behind the still-hot Odubel Herrera and a solid performance from starting pitcher Vince Velasquez.

What It Means:  For a brief few hours following this win and the Braves game on Thursday night, the Phillies were tied for first place in the division.

What Happened:  Velasquez recovered after a shaky first few innings to pitch through the sixth, allowing three runs on five hits while striking out 12.  Seranthony Dominguez, Luis Garcia and Hector Neris were perfect in the final three frames.

Odubel Herrera raised his league leading average to .353 with three more hits and a pair of RBIs.  Carlos Santana knocked in three more runs on a fourth inning, three-run home run (6).

Featured Card:  Available from the Topps Phillies retail set, this is a preview of what Velasquez's card will most likely look like in the second series of the Topps flagship set.

Transaction:  Zac Curtis was optioned back to the IronPigs and Jake Thompson was recalled.  Ben Lively was also activated from the disabled list and sent to Lehigh Valley.
