1987 Topps Traded #32T Lee Elia MG

Mets 1, Phillies 0
Game 110 - Saturday Night, August 7th in Philadelphia

And the vacation is over . . . Bills to pay, lawn to mow, back to work on Monday. Blech.

The Phillies waited until they had 2 outs in the 6th to collect their first hit, when Placido Polanco singled up the middle off Mets' starter Johan Santana. Unfortunately, that was probably the lone Phillies highlight from this game.

The Mets scored their first and only run on a Jeff Francoeur home run just over the right field fence in the 7th inning off Phillies starter Cole Hamels. Hamels pitched a great game (7 innings, 6 hits, 1 run, 11 strikeouts), but Santana pitched just a little better.

The Phils had their chances to score in the 7th and 8th innings. Jayson Werth made another base-running blunder in the 7th, getting thrown out at 3rd for the 1st out of the inning on a ground ball hit to shortstop Jose Reyes. (C'mon Jayson!) They left 'em loaded in the 8th as Mets' closer Francisco Rodriguez wriggled out of trouble, eventually securing a 5-out save.

Alumni Weekend: Annually, the Phillies bring back their former players, coaches and managers for a weekend celebration at the ballpark. During tonight's broadcast, the TV crew got the chance to chat with former Phillies Lee Elia, Jim Bunning and Mike Schmidt. We caught part of the TV crew's interview with Kevin Stocker on Friday night, in between light saber battles. I love how the Phils don't shy away from celebrating their past, and I hope they continue this annual tradition.

Tweet of the Night: Not to pile on Werth, but this stat comes courtesy of Todd Zolecki's Twitter feed - Werth is 0 for his last 32 with runners in scoring position and 2 outs. Not exactly Mr. Clutch.
