2026 Philadelphia Phillies Photocards
Wednesday Afternoon, June 17th
Citizens Bank Park - Philadelphia, PA
40-34, 2nd Place, 6 1/2 games behind the Braves

One Sentence Summary:  Andrew Painter suffered his latest rough outing as the Marlins easily defeated the Phillies, 12-4.

What It Means:  This game would result in demotions for both Painter and reliever Tanner Banks, who has also struggled all season.  Painter is 1-8 with a 7.06 ERA, and his ERA was 13.11 in his last three appearances.  He'll try to get back on track with the IronPigs, forcing the Phillies to figure out who the next fifth starter will be.  Banks was one of the club's top relievers in 2025, but he's 0-4 with a 5.86 ERA in 26 games so far this season.  Lefty Kyle Backhus is due to come off the injured list soon.

What Happened:  Painter labored through two innings, allowing six runs on six hits, including two home runs.  Banks allowed the other four runs, giving up a pair of two-run home runs, although all but one of the runs was unearned due to a Trea Turner error.  Turner did go 3 for 5 in this game, raising his season average to .223.  The offense overall had 10 hits and went 4 for 12 with runners in scoring position, but it wasn't enough to overcome the early deficit.  Garrett Stubbs came from behind the plate in the ninth to take the mound and record the final out.

Featured Card:  Here's hoping Painter can turn things around in Lehigh Valley, as it would be a huge boost if the organization's top pitching prospect could contribute down the stretch run.  This is his team-issued photo card, currently available for sale at the ballpark.

Transaction:  Shortly after the game ended, Painter (rhp) was optioned to Lehigh Valley to hopefully figure some things out.
