Wednesday Night, April 9th
Truist Park - Atlanta, GA
8-3, 1st Place, 1/2 game ahead of the Mets

One Sentence Summary:  Taijuan Walker continued his scoreless streak, with Bryce Harper and Trea Turner hitting late home runs to give the Phillies a 4-3 win over the Braves.

What It Means:  This win tied the series, and the Phillies would go for the series win on Thursday night behind Jesus Luzardo.

What Happened:  Walker threw 4 2/3 scoreless innings, before getting the hook after loading the bases with a single and two walks in the fifth inning.  Jose Ruiz got out of the jam, inducing a pop up from Austin Riley to end the inning.  Walker begins the 2025 season with 10 2/3 scoreless innings of work.  The Phillies scored first in the top of the sixth when Bryson Stott singled home Max Kepler.  But the Braves responded with two runs of their own in the bottom of the sixth off Ruiz.  Harper gave the Phillies a 3-2 lead in the seventh, homering with Trea Turner aboard.  Riley responded with a solo home run off Joe Ross in the bottom of the seventh, once again tying the score.

Featured Card:  In the top of the ninth, with Raisel Iglesias on the mound, Turner picked a great time for his first home run of the season, launching a pitch to left-center field.  Jose Alvarado needed 30 pitches to record the final four outs of the game to give the win to the Phillies.  I recently added this Turner card to my collection, an insert from last year, exclusive to Costco Flagship Collection super boxes.
