Game 156 - Wheeler's Outing Wasted as Bats Go Quiet

2024 Choice Lehigh Valley
IronPigs #3
Mets 2
Phillies 1
Game 156 - Sunday Night, September 22nd in Flushing
Record - 92-64, 1st Place, 5 games ahead of the Mets

One Sentence Summary:  A lack of run support wasted a fine effort from Zack Wheeler in this 2-1 defeat to the Mets.

What It Means:  The Phillies dropped three out of four to the Mets, and they'll come home to face the Cubs for the final three regular season games at Citizens Bank Park.

What Happened:  Wheeler was looking for his 17th win, and would have had it if the Phillies could have delivered a few timely hits.  With the score tied 1-1, Brandon Nimmo homered to lead off the sixth and break the tie.  The Phillies had jumped to a 1-0 lead in the first when Trea Turner singled, went to second on a wild pitch and came home on an Alec Bohm single to right.  The offense would go 0 for 8 over the balance of the game with runners in scoring position.  Edwin Diaz closed it out for the Mets with a six-out save.

Featured Card:  Darick Hall, in what could be his final game in the Phillies' organization, hit a game-winning grand slam for the IronPigs on Sunday afternoon.  Hall is the all-time home run leader for the IronPigs team, and he's been their most popular player over the past four seasons.
