2023 Philadelphia Phillies Photo Cards |
Game 128 - Friday Night, August 25th in Philadelphia
Record - 70-58, 2nd Place, 13 1/2 games behind the Braves
Second Summer Sabbatical Game Recap Catch-Up Post 5 of 10
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies easily dismantled the Cardinals in this 7-2 offensive barrage.
What It Means: Spoiler alert, but this would be the first win in what would ultimately be a fairly convincing three-game sweep of the Cardinals, the Phillies' opponent in last year's Wild Card series.
What Happened: The Cardinals scored a pair of runs in the first inning off Phillies' starter Cristopher Sanchez when Paul Goldschmidt connected for a two-run home run. But then Sanchez calmed down, pitching five shutout innings, and the Phillies offense took over. Trea Turner, Alec Bohm, Garrett Stubbs, Kyle Schwarber, Brandon Marsh and Nick Castellanos all doubled. Bryce Harper collected his first triple of the year. Bohm and Schwarber both homered.
Featured Card: Stubbs tied the game in the second with a two-run double. I don't get to feature the Phillies' Vibe Captain enough, and as a back-up catcher to arguably the best catcher in baseball, he doesn't play a whole lot. As such, I only have two Stubbs baseball cards in my 2023 Phillies binder so far this season. This is his team-issued photo card, released individually this year and not via set form. The other card of his I have is from Topps Now, celebrating his time with Team Israel during the World Baseball Classic.
