Game 143 - Phils Fall Short Against Fish

2022 Donruss #41
Marlins 5
, Phillies 3
Game 143 - Thursday Night, September 15th in Miami
Record - 80-63, 3rd Place, 9 games behind the Mets

One Sentence Summary:  The Phillies came up short against Pablo Lopez and the Marlins, dropping the series finale by a score of 5-3.

What It Means:  The loss snapped a modest five-game win streak.  Next up, the Phillies travel to Atlanta for a crucial weekend series against the Braves.  The Mets hold a slim one-game lead over the Braves for the top spot in the division.

What Happened:  Noah Syndergaard gave up a crushing three-run home run to Bryan De La Cruz in the fourth inning, giving the Marlins a 4-0 lead.  The Phillies chipped away with a solo home run from Kyle Schwarber (his 38th) and a few more RBIs from the suddenly hot Brandon Marsh.  Marsh fell a home run short of the cycle, enjoying his first career four-hit game.

Featured Card:  Since joining the Phillies, Marsh is batting .300 in 25 games, raising his combined season average from .226 (with the Angels) to a respectable .242.  He's appeared on quite a few 2022 baseball cards, including this Donruss card which could be mistaken for a Phillies card given the lack of logos.  I'd expect to see Marsh's first Phillies cards in the Topps Update or Heritage High Numbers sets.
