2022 Phillies Photo Cards #57 |
Game 83 - Thursday Afternoon, July 7th in Philadelphia
Record - 44-39, 3rd Place, 8 games behind the Mets
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies edged the Nationals, 5-3, led by Darick Hall and a suddenly solid bullpen.
What It Means: The Phillies Room staff is back from a 12-day sojourn to Europe, and we'll be slowly adding game summary posts for the games we missed while we were away. In the 11 games we missed, the Phillies went 6-5, but lost the heart of their line-up on June 25th when Bryce Harper broke his thumb. The team is currently a percentage point ahead of the Cardinals for the third National League Wild Card spot, and they'll open a crucial four-game series in St. Louis tonight.
What Happened: Bailey Falter started the game and allowed a pair of runs in his four innings of work before yielding to the bullpen. Nick Nelson picked up the win with two innings of scoreless relief. Seranthony Dominguez pitched a perfect ninth inning for his third save. Darick Hall stayed hot with an RBI-double and a home run, his fourth, in the seventh inning. Didi Gregorius was credited with an RBI-triple in the third when Nationals' right fielder Juan Soto dropped a fly ball.
Featured Card: Let's come back from vacation in style with the first (and only?) Phillies card for reliever Nelson. My son Doug says Nelson reminds him of a computer-generated player from his baseball video games.
