2022 Phillies Photo Cards #10 |
Game 71 - Late Thursday Night, June 23rd in San Diego
Record - 37-34, 3rd Place, 8 games behind the Mets
One Sentence Summary: After being no-hit for four innings, the Phillies exploded for five runs in the sixth inning off Padres' ace Joe Musgrove, ultimately winning, 6-2.
What It Means: The Phillies Room is about to shut down for a little bit for scheduled summer maintenance, with all staff embarking on a brief sabbatical. Regular posting will resume again in early July. Go Phils!
What Happened: Didi Gregorius singled with one out in the fifth for the team's first hit of the night off Musgrove, and Gregorius would come around to score on an Odubel Herrera softly hit single to left. With the score tied 1-1, Kyle Schwarber just cleared the center field fence for his 20th home run, scoring Bryson Stott who had doubled to lead off the inning. Bryce Harper and Nick Castellanos both singled before J.T. Realmuto broke his June home run drought with another wall scraper to right, making it 6-1 Phillies.
Ranger Suarez battled through 7 1/3 innings, allowing a pair of runs on seven hits. He picked up his sixth win of the season.
Featured Card: The Phillies will need both Castellanos (.245) and Realmuto (.240) to pick up their offensive output in the second half of the season, and their hits in this game were a good start. Just to show how much of a non-factor Realmuto has been so far in 2022, this is the first game summary post all year to feature one of his baseball cards.
