2022 Phillies Photo Cards #21 |
Game 63 - Wednesday Afternoon, June 15th in Philadelphia
Record - 32-31, 3rd Place, 8 1/2 games behind the Mets
One Sentence Summary: Held scoreless through the first eight innings, the Phillies came away with a dramatic win after a Garrett Stubbs three-run home run ended the ballgame in the bottom of the ninth.
What It Means: If not for the shoddy defense and relief work on Tuesday night, the Phillies would have come away with a sweep of the Marlins. They'll next open a five-game series against the Nationals, which includes games being made up that were cancelled at the start of the season due to the owner's lock-out.
What Happened: Kyle Gibson threw a fantastic game, pitching eight strong innings, and allowing just a solo home run to Miguel Rojas in the fifth. He struck out six. Connor Brogdon was the recipient of the win after he threw a perfect ninth. The Phillies offense had been 0 for 10 with runners in scoring position prior to Stubbs' big blast. Having hit his first big league home run earlier in the season, this was his first ever walk-off home run.
Featured Card: Here's Stubbs' first and only Phillies baseball card to date, from the just-released team-issued photo card set. I'm hoping he ends up with a Topps Now card to celebrate his heroics in this game.
