2022 Phillies Photo Cards #17 |
Game 61 - Monday Night, June 13th in Philadelphia
Record - 31-30, 3rd Place, 8 1/2 games behind the Mets
One Sentence Summary: Rhys Hoskins drove home Matt Vierling with a game-winning double in the ninth, sending the Phillies to a 3-2 victory.
What It Means: The Phillies have won ten out of their last 11 games.
What Happened: It was a pitcher's duel for most of the game, with the Marlins' Sandy Alcantara battling Aaron Nola. Nola went seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits while striking out six. Alcantara departed in the eighth with two outs and runners on the corners. Didi Gregorius came through on the first pitch he saw from reliever Steven Okert with an RBI single to right to tie the game. After a perfect top of the ninth from Seranthony Dominguez, Vierling blooped a single to left, stole second base, and came in to score on Hoskins' double to center.
Featured Card: I was thrilled to produce a post summarizing a team-issued photo card set for the first time in two years, and I'll be showing a lot of the cards from this set in upcoming posts. I was surprised to learn this was Hoskins first ever big league walk-off, game-winning RBI.
Transaction: Michael Kelly (rhp) had his contract purchased from Lehigh Valley and James Norwood (rhp) was designated for assignment. Norwood was 1-0 with an 8.31 ERA in 20 games and 17 1/3 innings pitched. Also, Rafael Marchan (c) was activated from the 60-day injured list and optioned to Lehigh Valley.
