2022 Donruss #186 |
Game 58 - Friday Night, June 10th in Philadelphia
Record - 29-29, 3rd Place, 9 game behind the Mets
One Sentence Summary: Rhys Hoskins started the scoring with a solo home run in the first and capped the scoring with a solo home run in the seventh in this 7-5 win over the Diamondbacks.
What It Means: The Phillies have now won eight in a row, and they're back at .500 for the first time since they were 17-17 on May 14th.
What Happened: The Phillies scored early and often, with a five run second inning following Hoskins' home run in the first. Kyle Schwarber hit a three-run home run (his 16th) and Didi Gregorius would add an RBI-double. Kyle Gibson battled through six innings, yielding to reliever Brad Hand in the seventh. Hand's specialty seems to be allowing inherited runners to score, and he gave up two of Gibson's runs as well as two of his own. The Diamondbacks had pulled to within a run at 6-5 before Hoskins hit his second home run of the night. Corey Knebel allowed a hit but had an otherwise uneventful ninth inning to record his 11th save.
Featured Card: It's a good sign for Hoskins to see a Donruss card at the top of this post, as I'd only go to a Donruss card after using all other 2022 cards of his in my collection. I get that Panini is going for a nostalgic '80s vibe here, but this is just not an attractive baseball card. And the placement of a stray glove string below Hoskins' nose makes it look as if he has a mustache.
Transaction: Zack Wheeler (rhp) was activated from the paternity list and Scott Kingery (inf) was outrighted to Lehigh Valley.
