2005 Topps #481 |
Game 23 - Sunday Night, May 1st in Flushing
Record - 11-12, 3rd Place, 5 games behind the Mets
One Sentence Summary: Zach Eflin and the bullpen struggled in this game and the Phils fell to the Mets despite two more home runs from Kyle Schwarber.
What It Means: The Phillies have an off-day Monday and then a quick two-game series at home against the Rangers.
What Happened: Eflin departed in the fifth with the score tied 3-3 and the bases loaded. Jose Alvarado entered to try to repeat the success he enjoyed on Saturday night. He did not. A passed ball and an RBI single from Dominic Smith cleared the bases and gave the Mets a 6-3 lead. The Mets would plate three more in the seventh off relievers James Norwood and Cristopher Sanchez.
All the Phillies' runs came from the long-ball. Schwarber hit a solo shot in the second and a two-run home run in the fourth. Bryce Harper added a solo home run in the sixth and Johan Camargo supplied a two-run home run in the ninth after Alec Bohm appeared to have been intentionally hit by Mets reliever Yoan Lopez.
Featured Card: Let's cleanse the timeline as they say with a Chase Utley card.
Transaction: Roster sizes decreased from 28 to 26 on May 2nd, and the Phillies optioned Damon Jones (lhp) and Sanchez (lhp) to Lehigh Valley.
