There's a New Sherriff in Town

This past Phillies season left me admittedly a bit drained, and it was a drag watching yet another postseason with no Phillies representation.  It was even tougher watching the Braves win the World Series, given the two teams were relatively close in the standings throughout the season.  But we keep moving forward as fans and I'm surprisingly excited to post my first offseason transactions update.  

I've made the decision not to create "Departures" insert cards this year as there are way too many of them and do we honestly need another custom Phillies card for Jorge Bonifacio, Matt Moore or Chase Anderson?  But I will move forward with the offseason "Additions" insert set and the set gained its first subject on Friday.  Left-handed pitcher Ryan Sherriff was claimed off waivers from the Rays, and he'll enter the mix of potential left-handed Phillird relievers for 2022 along with Jose Alvarado, Bailey Falter and Cristopher Sanchez.

Sherriff appeared in 16 games for the Rays last season, going 0-1 with a 5.52 ERA over 14 2/3 innings pitched.  He had seen limited time before that with the Cardinals in 2017 and 2018, and with the Rays in 2020.  His one mainstream baseball card appearance to date came within the 2018 Topps set.

While Sherriff became the first new addition of the offseason, there are already quite a few names on the departures list.  Some of these players (Hector Neris?) may be back while others will now join the numbered ranks of ex-Phillies.
