Reds 6, Phillies 1
Game 116 - Friday Night, August 13th in Philadelphia
Record - 60-56, Tied for 1st Place, 1/2 game ahead of the Mets
One Sentence Summary: Zack Wheeler didn't have his best stuff and the Phillies offense was baffled by Reds starter Tyler Mahle in this 6-1 loss.
What It Means: It's going to be a stressful September unless the Phillies go on another long winning streak.
What Happened: Wheeler admittedly didn't have it, allowing two big home runs to Joey Votto in the fourth, a three-run shot, and Nick Castellanos in the sixth. Eugenio Suarez added a two-run home run in the ninth off Phillies' reliever David Paulino to put the game out of reach. The Phillies had only five hits, including an RBI double from Didi Gregorius in the ninth.
Featured Card: Paulino got roughed up in his return to the majors, allowing the Suarez home run and giving up three hits overall. It was the pitcher's first appearance in a big league game since September 29, 2018 when he was pitching for the Blue Jays. His Phillies tenure may be limited to just this one appearance as Paulino was designated for assignment on Sunday.
