Game 113 - 2004 Multi-Ad Reading Phillies #19 Carlos Ruiz

Dodgers 5
, Phillies 0
Game 113 - Tuesday Night, August 10th in Philadelphia
Record - 59-54, 1st Place, 1 game ahead of the Braves

One Sentence Summary:  After a lengthy rain delay, the back end of the Phillies bullpen couldn't contain the Dodgers in this 5-0 loss.

What It Means:  And we're back!  After 12 months or so of not leaving our area code during lockdown, we opted for two summer vacations this year and we returned from our latest Disney trip on Wednesday afternoon.  I'll gradually catch up these game summary posts in the coming days for the sake of completeness, and unlike prior catch-ups I'm actually looking forward to reliving the past week-plus of Phillies baseball.  The last game I summarized came on the final Friday of July as the Phillies lost, 7-0 to the last place Pirates.  The loss dropped them to 3 1/2 games behind the Mets and a game under .500.  Since then, the Phillies won eight in a row to propel them into first place.  We should go away more often!

What Happened:  Aaron Nola was cruising through four innings, having struck out seven, when the heavens opened with almost two hours worth of rain.  Matt Moore and Enyel De Los Santos caused most of the damage, surrendering six hits and three runs in their combined two innings of work.  Jean Segura continued to swing a hot bat with three more hits.

Featured Card:  Following Alumni Weekend and the Roy Halladay number retirement ceremony on Sunday, the Reading Fightin Phils honored catcher Carlos Ruiz on Tuesday night, inducting him into the Baseballtown Hall of Fame.  Here's Ruiz's card from 2004, his one full season with the club.  There's so much going on in the background of this card.

Transaction:  Rhys Hoskins (1b) officially landed on the injured list and the Phillies recalled Mickey Moniak (of) from Lehigh Valley.

That's always been one of my favorite R-Phils cards! I have a signed copy of it. The funniest reaction is the guy in the upper left who apparently entirely missed that the ball was coming down in front of him, causing mass chaos!

Looks as if the dude in the America t-shirt is oblivious too!
