Game 110 - Friday Night, August 6th in Philadelphia
Record - 57-53, 1st Place, 1/2 game ahead of the Mets
One Sentence Summary: Making his home debut, Kyle Gibson pitched six strong innings for the Phillies and delivered his first career RBI as this win propelled the team into first place.
What It Means: There's still a lot of baseball left to play, but to have the Phillies in first place on August 6th provides a pretty good feeling. After an enjoyable day at the Magic Kingdom, we watched most of this game from our room at Disney's Riviera Resort.
What Happened: Didi Gregorius homered in the second for the Phillies first run and Gibson delivered an RBI single in the fifth to give the Phillies a 2-1 lead. With chants of "MVP" throughout the ballpark, Bryce Harper provided a few much-needed insurance runs with a two-run home run in the eighth. Ian Kennedy allowed a solo home run to Jonathan Villar in the ninth, but then locked down his first Phillies save.
Featured Card: Harper has emerged as a legitimate favorite for league MVP honors as he wills this team into the postseason. I'm not a huge fan of "mini" cards, but this is arguably one of Harper's cooler cards from this year.
