Game 89 - Friday Afternoon, July 16th in Philadelphia
Record - 45-44
One Sentence Summary: Unlikely heroes Matt Moore, Travis Jankowski and Ronald Torreyes paced the Phillies to this 5-2 win to open the season's second half.
What It Means: The win took the Phillies above .500 for the first time since June 13th when they were 32-31. Unfortunately, the winning record would only survive a few hours given the outcome of game two.
What Happened: Moore worked out of trouble to throw 4 1/3 effective innings while striking out nine batters. Archie Bradley, who picked up the win, pitched 1 2/3 scoreless innings and Ranger Suarez struck out the side in the seventh to record his third save. Torreyes, starting at third base, made several dazzling defensive plays throughout the game.
Featured Card: Jankowski came to bat with the bases loaded in the first and blooped a softly hit double down the right field line to clear the bases. He added an RBI single in the third on the way to a three-hit, four-RBI game. Jankowski hasn't appeared on any Phillies baseball cards yet, but he did make it into the recently released IronPigs team set.
Transactions: Bailey Falter (lhp) was activated from the Covid injured list and Damon Jones (lhp) was optioned back to Lehigh Valley. Jones has been active now for a pair of games but has yet to make his major league debut. Matt Vierling (of) was added as the 27th man for the double header.
