Game 87 - 2021 Topps Heritage New Age Performers #NAP-15 Alec Bohm

Phillies 11
, Red Sox 2
Game 87 - Saturday Afternoon, July 10th in Boston
Record - 43-44, 3rd Place, 4 1/2 games behind the Mets

One Sentence Summary:  The Phillies exploded for eight runs in the eighth inning, breaking a close game open and then cruising to an 11-2 victory.

What It Means:  They'll again go for a series win this afternoon against Nick Pivetta and the Red Sox, before scattering for the 2021 All-Star break.

What Happened:  It was a close game through seven innings with the Phillies hanging on to a 3-2 lead thanks to a solo home run from Jean Segura in the first and a two-run home run from Alec Bohm in the second.  The top of the eighth lasted nearly 40 minutes and featured five Phillies hits, including two two-run doubles from Rhys Hoskins and Bryce Harper, four walks, a hit batter, and three different Red Sox pitchers.  Red Sox reliever Brandon Workman didn't retire a batter, allowing a Ronald Torreyes RBI single and two walks.  Segura and Torreyes both had three hits in the game.

Bailey Falter picked up the win, throwing two scoreless innings and striking out three.

Featured Card:  Bohm has had a tough first half, and he's been picking it up as of late.  Since the beginning of June, he's batting .315 with five doubles, two home runs and 17 RBIs.  Unfortunately, he was pulled from this game for Covid protocols and his All-Star break might be starting earlier than anticipated.

Transaction:  Odubel Herrera (of) was placed on the injured list with a left ankle injury and JD Hammer (rhp) had his contract selected from Lehigh Valley.  Hammer worked out of his own trouble in this game's seventh inning, his first big league appearance since July 17, 2019.
