Phillies 8, Cubs 0
Game 85 - Thursday Night, July 8th in Chicago
Record - 42-43, 2nd Place, 4 games behind the Mets
One Sentence Summary: Brad Miller, getting the start at first base over the hot Rhys Hoskins, launched three home runs and drove in five runs in this 8-0 win over the Cubs.
What It Means: Miller became the first Phillies player with three home runs in a game since Jayson Werth did it against the Blue Jays in 2008.
What Happened: Did Gregorius also had a nice night at the plate, going 3 for 5 with a two-run home run in the seventh. Zach Eflin battled through six scoreless innings of work, allowing only five hits, to earn the win. Archie Bradley, Hector Neris and Ranger Suarez kept the Cubs off the scoreboard for the final three innings.
Featured Card: To date, Miller has only two Phillies baseball cards - a Topps Now card from 2019 and another Topps Now released a week ago to celebrate his walk-off hit against the Padres. Hopefully he ends up with a more mainstream Phillies baseball card before the year is done.
