Record - 10-12-1
One Sentence Summary: The Phillies offense was relatively quite and starter Ivan Nova gave up four runs early in this 4-1 loss to the Tigers.
What It Means: Opening day is a week from today.
What Happened: Nova lasted into the sixth inning, giving up 4 runs on 10 hits. JoJo Romero continued his hot spring, throwing 1 2/3 scoreless innings and lowering his ERA to 1.17. Darick Hall had a pair of hits for the Phillies, and Luke Williams drove in the team's only run with an RBI-single in the second. Scott Kingery (1 for 3, .139 average) and Odubel Herrera (1 for 4, .225 average) continued their struggles as spring training draws to a close.
Featured Card: See below.
Camp Head Count: 58 - 1 = 57. With J.T. Realmuto seemingly recovered enough to start the season, catcher Jeff Mathis requested and was granted his release. I was disappointed to see Mathis go, as it would have been nice to have him in Lehigh Valley working with the team's young pitching prospects. In 10 spring games, Mathis batted .207 (6 for 29) with a home run and hopefully he latches on with another team. He receives the first Chachi Almost insert card of the year to mark his short time with the club.
