Initial Offseason Departures and One New Arrival

2021 Chachi New Additions #1
Over the past few weeks, I've been using my nervous energy generated by the 2020 U.S. elections to go back and update a bunch of my Phillies team-issued photo card posts and now that I'm about a third of the way through that project, I think I'll keep going the rest of the way. Updating those posts is a good remedy for not knowing what else to do while the Phillies enter their offseason and as I anxiously (but hopefully) await the results of the presidential election. What had started as a few updates to now outdated posts is a complete re-haul of my original posts with additional information and pictures.

Taking a quick break from that process, I also wanted to kick off my 2020-2021 offseason series of posts tracking the various comings and goings of Phillies players. Hopefully a few of these names, most notably J.T. Realmuto and Didi Gregorius, will be back. I also wouldn't be surprised if super utility player and Phillies Room favorite Phil Gosselin and top reliever Blake Parker found their way back to the club as non-roster invitees. A few of these names, most notably Brandon Workman and Jake Arrieta, most definitely will not be back.

The first addition of the offseason is Johan Quezada, claimed off waivers from the Marlins on October 30th. Quezada is 26 and the right-hander appeared in 3 games with the Marlins in 2020, generating a 9.00 ERA over 3 innings of work. He made his big league debut on September 12th against the Phillies, retiring Rhys Hoskins, Bryce Harper and Andrew Knapp in order in a scoreless 9th inning.

Finally, the Phillies put out a cryptic press release on October 18th indicating that pitching coach Bryan Price had "opted to retire from a full-time coaching capacity," which I believe is a fancy way of saying he had quit. Worst case scenario, the Phillies head into the 2020-2021 offseason needing a catcher, a shortstop, a center fielder, a completely overhauled bullpen and a pitching coach.
