Nationals 5, Phillies 1 (Game 1 - 7 Innings)
Game 55 - Tuesday Afternoon, September 22nd in Washington
Record - 27-28
One Sentence Summary: Sloppy defense and a lifeless offense contributed in equal parts to this devastating 5-1 loss to the Nationals.
What It Means: Devastating for a few reasons - (1) Poor play wasted an Aaron Nola start when every single one of these games is now a crucial must-win and (2) for what would happen later Tuesday in Game 2.
What Happened: Nola battled and wasn't helped by his defense. The Nationals scored in the first on a costly Mickey Moniak misplay, and they'd pile on four more runs in the third. The Phillies offense managed three hits off Nationals' starter Austin Voth, who entered the game with a 7.17 ERA.
Featured Card: Jean Segura has had a consistent year while being asked to jump back and forth between second and third base. His fourth inning home run off Voth was the only Phillies run scored in this game.
Transaction: The Phillies added Ranger Suarez (lhp) as the 29th man for this double header.
