Game 24 - 1992 Fleer/ProCards #580 John Escobar

Diamondbacks 8, Phillies 2
Game 24 - Thursday Afternoon, April 26th in Philadelphia
Record - 15-9, 2nd place, 1/2 game behind the Mets

One Sentence Summary:  Ben Lively was shellacked in his brief outing as the Diamondbacks easily won, 8-2.

What It Means:  The Diamondbacks are a good ballclub, and this series win gives them eight in a row to start the season, the most since the 1977 Dodgers.

What Happened:  Lively's ERA is now up to 6.85 after he allowed seven runs on seven hits and four walks in 2 1/3 innings.  The offense went 2 for 13 with runners in scoring position and Aaron Altherr drove in both Phillies runs.

Featured Card:  I'm putting away a box-load of older Phillies minor league sets I recently acquired, and I came across this card recently.  Just like Lively's performance lately something seems to be a little off here.

John Escobar played in parts of six seasons in the Phillies minor league system, topping out at Double-A Reading in 1992 and 1993.

Ah, late '80s and early '90s minor league sets--at the rate were being pumped out, who had time for quality control? There are a lot of bad minor league cards from that era, this one being a prime example.
