The 1973 set featured such drab, uninspired photography. If only the cards had looked as great as this Hamels card does. You are making me reevaluate my feelings about the 1973 design. It was such a disappointment after the crazy 1972 set.
Some of the photos used in the 1973 Topps set were just downright wacky - as a few awesome set specific blogs have pointed out. But I agree, the set as a whole seems washed out and it's very drab especially when compared to the prior year's set. A good, bright photo (like the Hamels photo) shows what could have been.
