Phillies 4, Mets 0
Game 151 - Wednesday Night, September 19th in Philadelphia
Record - 78-73, 2nd place, 5 1/2 games behind the Braves
One Sentence Summary: Zach Eflin pitched five shutout innings while Rhys Hoskins and Odubel Herrera both homered in this 4-0 win over the Mets.
What It Means: The Phillies have their second series win in a row and they head to Atlanta to start a crucial four-game series with the Braves. Realistically, the Phillies need to sweep the Braves or at least take 3 out of 4 to have any chance of a postseason appearance. It's been an interesting season, to say the least, and this may be as close to experiencing playoff games that the Phillies get this year.
What Happened: Eflin picked up his 11th win and struck out a career-high 9 batters. Hoskins homered (32) in the 1st to get the Phillies on the board and Herrera added a two-run home run (22) in the 4th. Jose Bautista contributed a pinch-double in the 5th, driving in Carlos Santana with the 4th run.
Featured Card: As pointed out on Phillies Twitter, Hoskins' home run gave him 50 for his career making him the second-fastest Phillies player to that mark and the seventh fastest in the history of baseball. Hoskins hit his 50th in his 192nd game while it took Ryan Howard only 182 games.
