1970 Topps Appreciation: Dick Ellsworth goes solo for this edition of 1970 Topps Appreciation. Ellsworth pitched just one season for the Phillies, traded to the club in December 1966 from the Cubs for
Ray Culp. He started 21 games for the 1967 Phillies and relieved in another 11 games. He finished the season with a 6-7 record and a 4.38 ERA, and he was traded after the season to the Red Sox in the deal that brought
Mike Ryan to Philadelphia.
1970 was to be Ellsworth's penultimate season in the Majors, splitting time between the Indians and Brewers. In 43 games that season, all but one in relief, he had a 3-3 record and a 3.79 ERA.
