Game 34 - 2018 Grandstand Reading Fightin Phils Update #30 Edgar Garcia

Cardinals 6Phillies 0
Game 34 - Monday Night, May 6th in St. Louis
Record - 19-15, 1st place, 1 1/2 games ahead of the Braves

One Sentence Summary:  Miles Mikolas shut the Phillies down and Vince Velasquez struggled again in this 6-0 loss to the Cardinals.

What It Means:  Velasquez has made six starts so far this season and has pitched six full innings only once.  If you go back to August 1st of last season, he's made 16 starts and pitched at least six full innings twice.  This isn't sustainable.

What Happened:  Velasquez lasted four innings, giving up three home runs.  The Phillies offense had five singles and only once had a runner in scoring position.

2007 Bowman Prospects #BP48
Featured Card:  Pitching prospect Edgar Garcia made his debut, relieving Velasquez in the fifth inning, allowing a run on two hits.  I have several Garcia card in my Phillies collection, all from recent minor league team sets.  This Garcia, Edgar Ernesto Garcia, is not to be confused with a different Garcia, Edgar Alberto Garcia, who pitched in the Phillies system for six seasons between 2005 and 2010.

The earlier Garcia received a card in the 2007 Bowman set.  The newer Garcia has yet to appear on any mainstream baseball cards as far as I can tell.

Transactions:  Enyel De Los Santos, who had pitched two scoreless innings in the series finale against the Nationals on Sunday was optioned to Lehigh Valley to make room for Garcia.
