The first time I saw Dale Sveum's 1986 Topps Traded card, I thought to myself, "I have absolutely no idea how to say this guy's name". Dale Svee-um? Dale Se-veum?It wasn't until many years later, when I finally heard an announcer somewhere pronounce it Dale "Swaim" that I thought, "Well of course".
Dale's Phillies career was short. Wearing #8, he appeared in 54 games with the Phils in 1992 after being acquired from the Brewers for Bruce Ruffin on December 11, 1991. Good things happen on December 11th. This probably wasn't one of them.
