2016 Topps Archives #94 Darin Ruf

Phillies 10Mets 8
Game 155 - Saturday Night, September 24th in Flushing
Record - 70-85, 4th place, 20 1/2 games behind the Nationals

One Sentence Summary:  Despite the bullpen's best efforts to blow it, the Phillies won 10-8 after jumping to a 10-0 lead through the first four innings.

What It Means:  This would be the only game the team would salvage from an otherwise completely ugly series with the Mets.

What Happened:  The big blows from the Phillies were two, three-run home runs from Maikel Franco (25) in the first inning and Darin Ruf (2) in the fourth inning.  Alec Asher contributed a two-run single and earned his second win of the season.  The suddenly hot Odubel Herrera had a three-hit game and scored twice.

Hector Neris recorded his 100th strikeout of the season in the eighth inning, joining relievers Jake Diekman (2014), Al Holland (1983) and Dick Selma (1970) in reaching that plateau.  Michael Mariot recorded his second save.

Featured Card:  Ruf's days as a member of the Phillies could be coming to a close, as he's a potential non-tender candidate once the season concludes.  I had read somewhere that the slugger could be headed to Japan for the 2017 season.
