One Sentence Summary: The Phillies shockingly swept the Nationals with a three-run ninth inning at the expense of their all-time saves leader, Jonathan Papelbon.
What It Means: It was the first sweep of the Nationals in Washington since 2009. The Phillies are two games over .500 for the first time since the end of the 2012 season.
What Happened: The game was scoreless entering the ninth when the Phillies loaded the bases with nobody out. Papelbon was brought into the game and struck out Darin Ruf before Cameron Rupp blasted a two-run double to right, beyond the reach of Bryce Harper. David Lough would later single home an additional insurance run.
Aaron Nola threw an incredible game, striking out seven and allowing two hits in his seven innings of work. Elvis Araujo struck out Harper on three pitches to end a bases loaded threat in the eighth. Jeanmar Gomez pitched a scoreless ninth for his seventh save.
