Phillies 14
, Braves 4
Game 77 - Thursday Night, June 30th in Philadelphia
Record - 40-37, 3rd Place, 7 1/2 games behind the Mets

Post-Vacation Catch-Up Post 6 of 11

One Sentence Summary:  Led by the recently promoted Darick Hall, the Phillies offense came back to life in this 14-4 romp over the Braves.

What It Means:  The Phillies salvaged the series against the Braves, avoiding a three-game sweep.  The Cardinals would come into town next for a crucial four-game series.  Per a Tweet from the Phillies Notes account, the team finished June with 43 home runs, which is tied for third for most in a calendar month in franchise history.  Their 19 wins in June were the most in a calendar month since winning 21 games in September 2010.

What Happened:  The Phillies scored seven runs in the second inning, capped by a two-run double from Matt Vierling and a three-run home run from Nick Castellanos.  Kyle Schwarber and Rhys Hoskins both homered in the third inning, and Hall connected for his first hit, home run, run and RBI in the fourth.  He'd collect his second hit, and his second home run, in the eighth inning.

Featured Card:  I'm playing catch-up with these game summary posts, which means I already have the Topps Now card Hall received for his performance in hand.  According to this card, Hall became the first Phillies player in franchise history to record his first two big league hits via the long ball.  However, I don't think that's entirely true.  Todd Zolecki would Tweet out the following day, following Hall's third home run, that Hall was the second Phillies player since 1900 whose first three career hits were home runs, joining Ed Sanicki who did it in 1949.
