Game 59 - Tuesday Night, June 7th in Philadelphia
Record - 29-30, 4th place, 6 1/2 games behind the Nationals
One Sentence Summary: Jared Eickhoff and Jeanmar Gomez pitched magnificently and Ryan Howard hit a timely home run to give the Phillies a nail-biter of a win against the Cubs.
What It Means: The Phillies will try for the series win against the Cubs on Wednesday afternoon. (Spoiler alert - It didn't go well.)
What Happened: Eickhoff allowed just two hits and struck out eight in seven solid innings of work. Gomez inherited a bases loaded, no outs situation in the eighth from Hector Neris and worked out of that jam allowing just one run on a sacrifice fly. He then worked out of a first and third situation in the ninth to secure the win and his 19th save.
Howard's solo home run in the fourth gave the Phils a 2-0 lead. Maikel Franco and Odubel Herrera also had RBI singles.
Featured Card: For the fifth year in a row, fantastic looking custom cards are being produced by the fine folks over at The Shlabotnik Report. This Gomez card was pulled from a pack of TSR Series One and TSR Series Two should be live any day now.
I love how the design of each year's TSR Custom cards looks as if it could be an actual design used by one of the card companies in the '70s or '80s. If this set existed in actual cardboard form, I'd be the first in line to try to collect a complete set.

Sorry, I either missed this or I'm further behind than I thought.... Thanks for sharing my Gomez custom! I'm glad you like the 2016 set. and barring some sort of major life event, Series Two goes live tomorrow.
ReplyDeleteWhenever I see one of my customs on someone else's blog, I think I do that "puzzled dog" thing of tilting my head and going "whurrrr?" My brain is a little slow on the "What's that doing on someone else's blog?" thing. It's not a bad thing, just a thing.
I feel the exact same way. Always cool to see my cards in a different setting. (As long as I'm given credit and there's a link to The Phillies Room somewhere.)
