Part One of this trilogy of posts, I reviewed the 2016 Chachi Set Planning Committee's options from the Topps sets of the 1970s.
Part Two summarized available options from the 1980s. The Committee met briefly, some debate was held, and then we voted. Before the vote, I showed the Committee the cards at the top of this post which feature players who will most likely be members of the 2016 Phillies squad.
If I weight first place votes with 4 points, second place votes with 3 points, third place votes with 2 points and last place votes with a point, the 1970 and 1971 Topps sets are tied with 12 points a piece. 1978 and 1982 Topps come in at 8 points a piece, much to the disappointment of my youngest son Ben, who preferred the clean design of the 1978 Topps set and the fancy, cursive pink Phillies script.
At this point, it's safe to say that either the 1970 or 1971 Topps designs will be used for the 2016 Chachi set. You can help the Committee make our final decision by placing your vote in the poll to the left. As has been the case over the last few years, I'll announce the final decision right around the same time Topps reveals its design for its 2016 flagship set which has typically come in early August.
Happy voting!
This is a tough decision... I shall have to meditate on this before I cast my vote.
ReplyDeleteI voted for 1971, but 1978 looks surprisingly sharp and I almost picked it. Maybe for 2017 when the Phils are starting to approach .500 baseball again (we hope).
ReplyDeleteI waffled and dithered on how to handle my vote, and finally decided I need to be true to myself. I voted for 1978.
ReplyDeleteHowever...
If the vote were between just the two leading candidates, 1970 and 1971, I would have cast my vote for 1970.
...Just in case a tiebreaker is needed. :-D
Just for posterity's sake . . . after almost 5 full days of voting:
ReplyDelete1971 - 5 votes
1970 & 1978 - 3 votes
1982 - 2 votes
Definitely still leaning towards 1970 or 1971 and either set will be fun to work with next year. I wouldn't be shocked if the designs used for the 2016-2019 Chachi sets come from these four sets.
